Med Pot Board Nears End

Michigan’s Medical Marijuana Licensing Board is scheduled to go up in smoke.

The board meets today for what is expected to be its last time.

Barring an unlikely challenge from the state legislature it will be disbanded and be replaced on April 30th with a new state agency within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the Marijuana Regulatory Agency.

It is expected to take over licensing for both medical and recreational marijuana markets.

It is replacing the 5-member board that was created in 2016 when the state legislature passed bills to regulate and tax medical marijuana.

It had been required to meet in public to approve or deny licenses.

The new agency will be required to hold four public meetings a year, but decisions on licensing will be made behind closed doors
