Getting across metro Detroit on a bus is about to get a bit easier.
Starting tomorrow, the region’s 2 major bus networks, D-DOT and SMART, will use a unified payment system that will eliminate transfers.
The system will be known as Dart and will offer a series of passes with unlimited rides of both D-DOT and Smart that will be good for times ranging from 4 hours up to 31 days.
Officials say the new system promises to cut confusion and eliminate the 50-cent fee to transfer to a SMART bus.
Supporters say it gives hope to critics who have urged a closer coordinated effort between D-DOT and SMART.
