A Detroit police corporal is sentenced for an assault on a mentally unstable woman at Detroit Receiving Hospital.
Dewayne Jones was charged with repeatedly hitting the woman in the head after she had spit on him.
His attorney said that Jones was trying to protect himself and others.
A hospital worker testified at this trial that Jones lost it after the woman spit on him.
Prosecutors argued that the woman was not a threat to the officer and that he used unnecessary force.
He was convicted of misdemeanor assault and battery. Jones was given one year’s probation and ordered to do community service.
