UAW Targets GM In Talks

The UAW picks General Motors to negotiate a pattern settlement in the auto industry.
GM is the company with the most money.
A UAW statement says ‘Mary Barra said from the outset of these talks that we will stand up as we tackle a changing industry. We are ready to stand strong for our future.’
The union also says workers at all 3 companies overwhelmingly voted for strike authorization. It gives strike authorization to the international officers to call a strike. The current pact expires Sept. 14.
The union statement says,
‘Clearly the UAW stood up for them in a very dark time, now that they are profitable, it is time for them to stand up for all of us.’
