Cops Crackdown On Jaywalking

Police in 4 cities will step up enforcement of laws regarding pedestrians, including jaywalking.
Overtime enforcement grants will pay for patrols that will enforce pedestrian ordinances in Detroit, Warren, Lansing, and Kalamazoo.
The pedestrian patrols will run for a week, from tomorrow thru September 11th. Officers will be on the lookout for violations by drivers that include: illegal turns, failing to stop at a signal or stop sign, and failing to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk.
And they will ticket people who are walking across a busy street in the middle of traffic when they should use the crosswalk and go with the light.
More than 100 pedestrians are killed in traffic each year in Michigan.
September is the most dangerous month.
