There was much more smoke at the Country Smokehouse near Almont. This time it was accidental. Fire did heavy damage to the store on Van Dyke, which has been a destination for many in the region for their smoked meats, jerky, and as a huge deer processing center.
The Country Smokehouse is out of business. Most of the damage is inside the main building.
Also damaged was a new building under construction.
The owner had a heart attack 2 weeks ago, and this week, his father died.
There were no injuries in the fire. The cause is being investigated. The owner says he hopes to rebuild.
