Voters Decide Pensions, Manager Qualifications

Voters in Roseville and Eastpointe are facing some unusual choices at the polls today.

There are two proposals on the ballot in Roseville.

One removes police and fire employees from the current municipal pension plan.

The other would set up a separate pension under state law.

City officials say this would provide more protection for first responders in an economic downturn.

In Eastpointe, voters will determine whether to change the qualifications for city manager.

They currently are required to have a year of experience as a city manager or assistant city manager to qualify for the position.

Supporters say eliminating the qualification would increase an available talent pool for the job.
