CV Surge Continues; Schools Forced To Change Course

The dangerous surge is continuing. Michigan health department officials reported another record day of confirmed cases of the corona virus. The Saturday figures revealed there were 6,225 new cases and another 65 deaths.

School districts across the state are scrambling as they try to determine the best and safest way to deal with an upsurge in COVID-19 cases.
Farmington elementary students were scheduled to return to the classrooms today for this first time this fall. That move has now been delayed for at least a week. Chippewa Valley also delayed today’s scheduled start of classroom instruction in its middle and high schools. Effective today, some of the districts that are returning to virtual learning-only include Grosse Pointe, Pontiac,, Clarenceville, Ferndale, Bloomfield Hills, Rochester and all students in Utica except for elementary grades. Holly High School has gone to remote learning thru Nov, 13. They will go on-line on Thursday.
Some districts, noting few virus cases in their districts, are continuing their in-person instruction. These include Detroit, Eastpointe, Centerline, Novi, Flat Rock, Oxford and Van Buren.

The University of Michigan is the latest school to rethink its position in dealing with the pandemic. Students who don’t need to be on campus have been told to take virtual classes for the winter semester. Thus will largely clear out the undergraduate residence halls. Undergraduates who need to be on campus for the winter term can request special housing accommodations.
