DETROIT, February 10, 2020 ~ The Detroit Tigers are preparing for the 2021 MLB Season, which is set to start on time. Their first official workout for pitchers and catchers is on February 17, with the first full team workout on February 22. The first exhibition game takes place four days later on February 26, with the Grapefruit League beginning on February 27 in Tampa against the New York Yankees.
The regular-season schedule is set to return, with 162 games and reinstated nationwide travel. Seven-inning double headers and extra-inning rules are being kept from the 2020 season.
“We were able to complete a successful and memorable 2020 season due to the efforts and sacrifices made by our players, Club staff, and MLB employees to protect one another,” MLB said in a release. “The 2021 season will require a redoubling of those efforts as we play a full schedule with increased travel under a non-regionalized format…We all know the commitment it will take from each of us to keep everyone safe as we get back to playing baseball, and these enhanced protocols will help us do it together.”
