Aug. 9, 2023 ~ After Gov. Gretchen Whitmer created a new education department last month, concerns over its constitutionality have launched an official inquiry into the matter.

The Democrat-majority State Board of Education voted unanimously to have the state Attorney General Dana Nessel give an opinion on whether or not the new Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) violates the state’s constitution. The department was created by Whitmer via executive order, with the executive branch running MiLEAP to enroll every child into pre-K and create paths for higher education.

Detroit News political reporter Craig Mauger discusses the department further on 760 WJR‘s “All Talk.”
