Metal Detectors Installed at Michigan Capitol Building Following Total Weapons Ban

Aug. 10, 2023 ~ Shortly after the Michigan State Capitol Commission declared a total weapons ban from the capitol, metal detectors were installed this week in the state capitol building.

Walk-through detectors were set up in all major entrances to the main building and Heritage Hall visitor center. The total weapons ban applies to both visitors and lawmakers, and was implemented due to increased threats on lawmakers.

William Kandler, chairperson of the Michigan State Capitol Commission, spoke more about the weapons ban on “JR Morning with Guy Gordon.”
