Aug. 26, 2023 ~ Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Wayne County declared a state of emergency following the second major storm of the week that tore through Michigan with high winds and flooding Thursday evening.

As of early Friday afternoon, at least five people have been reported dead from the storm, and one tornado was confirmed to have touched down in Ingham and Livingston counties. Wayne County sent a public safety alert at around 1 p.m. Friday, warning residents to avoid contact with rivers and streams due to contamination runoff and wastewater overflows from flooding.

As of noon Friday, there were between 430,000 – 460,000 power outages reported in Michigan. Consumers Energy President and CEO Garrick Rochow, and DTE Energy Vice President of Distribution Operations Joe Musallam gave updates on power restoration from the storm on 760 WJR‘s “All Talk.”
