Mayor Duggan, Rep. Young Unveils New Legislation Aimed to Cut Detroit Homeowners’ Taxes

Sept. 1, 2023 ~ A new piece of legislation in the Michigan State Legislature looks to reduce property taxes for many in the city of Detroit.

Mayor Mike Duggan, State Rep. Stephanie Young (D-Detroit), and others unveiled the Land Value Tax Plan Thursday, which would raise taxes on vacant land and lower taxes for those with structures and improvements. The plan is estimated to reduce 97% of Detroit homeowner’s taxes by an average of 17%.

Duggan and Young explain the proposed plan further on “Focus with Paul W. Smith” and “JR Morning with Guy Gordon” respectively.
