EAST LANSING, Sept. 10, 2023 ~ In a press conference held Sunday, Michigan State University Athletic Director Alan Haller announced that MSU Head Football Coach Mel Tucker has been suspended following allegations of sexual harassments.
The complaint, which was detailed in a USA Today report published Sunday, was filed with the university’s Title IX office back in December by rape survivor and advocate Brenda Tracy.
Tracy, who was enlisted by Tucker to raise awareness about sexual violence, says that the coach made sexual comments about her and masturbated during an April 2022 phone call.

(CONTINUED) The USA Today report suggests that Tucker admitted to masturbating during the phone call, but claims that it was “consensual.” “I am not proud of my judgment, and I am having difficulty forgiving myself for getting into this situation, but I did not engage in misconduct by any definition.”
The university hired an outside Title IX attorney to conduct an investigation which was completed back in July. A hearing to determine if Tucker violated university policy was scheduled for early October.
Haller said that Tucker will remain suspended without pay pending the outcome of the university’s review.
