MARSHALL, MI, Sept. 26, 2023 ~ Ford Motor Co. announced Monday it is pausing its work on a $3.5 billion electric vehicle battery plant in Marshall, near Battle Creek.

The plant, which is estimated to bring 2,500 jobs to Michigan, was put on hold to evaluate the company’s “Ability to competitively operate the plant,” according to a spokesperson from Ford. UAW President Shawn Fain released a statement saying this decision is a “Shameful, barely-veiled threat by Ford to cut jobs” amid ongoing strikes against the big three Detroit automakers.

Phoebe Wall Howard, an automotive reporter for the Detroit Free Press, spoke more about Ford’s decision on “JR Morning with Guy Gordon, Lloyd Jackosn, and Jamie Edmonds.”
