EAST LANSING, Sept. 26, 2023 ~ Spartan basketball is heating up at the Breslin Center. MSU Basketball Head Coach Tom Izzo shared some insight on this year’s lineup and the season ahead for the Spartans before the first practice of the year.

Izzo has high hopes for the 2023-2024 season. Izzo highlighted the great team chemistry, depth in the roster, and well-earned ranking as the driving factors for success this season. Given that the team has great depth, Izzo reinforces his “earned, not given” philosophy. Regardless of status, players will equally compete to earn game time.

(CONTINUED) The dynamic team is a combination of veterans and lowerclassmen, each bringing their own strengths to create a deep roster. The veterans, including Malik Hall, Tyson Walker, Jaden Akins, and Madi Sissoko, have been great leaders to the incoming freshman, sharing their expertise and upholding the values of the relationship-based program Izzo has built. Izzo is excited to welcome the incoming freshman class, claiming they’re the “most pure and raw talent brought in” over the past several years.

The players have developed, the team has aged, and Izzo is ready to continue to build on the body of work they’ve established.
