Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police Has Safety Concerns Over Red Flag Law

MICHIGAN, Oct. 5, 2023 ~ Michigan‘s red flag law to confiscate firearms from those deemed at risk of violence has some police officers worried about their safety.

The law that will take effect in spring of 2024 has Robert Stevenson, executive director of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, worried about retaliation against officers during gun confiscations. However, State Sen. Mallory McMorrow, a lawmaker who pushed for the red flag legislation, said she found no examples of guns being fired during firearm seizures, according to Bridge Michigan.
