WJR’s Lomas Brown and Former WJBK-TV Anchor Huel Perkins Named Grand Marshals for America’s Thanksgiving Parade

DETROIT, October 19, 2023 ~ Former Detroit Lions offensive tackle and WJR personality Lomas Brown has been named alongside legendary former WJBK FOX 2 broadcaster Huel Perkins as grand marshals of the 97th America’s Thanksgiving Parade.

The role of grand marshal is about commitment to our wonderful city and giving back to make Detroit a better place, and I cannot think of two individuals who exemplify these ideals more than Lomas Brown and Huel Perkins,” said Tony Michaels, president and CEO of The Parade Company. “Both of these icons have been tireless supporters of Detroit, and we are thrilled they will be leading the festivities down Woodward on Thanksgiving morning.

(CONTINUED) Lomas, who recently joined 760 WJR as co-host of “SportsWrap with Lomas Brown and Sean Baligian,” played for 18 years in the NFL, including 11 of those with the Detroit Lions. He won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before retiring in 2022. Beyond his duties at WJR, Lomas serves as color analyst for the Detroit Lions Radio Network and as a commentator and analyst for ESPN. Lomas is scheduled to be inducted into the Pride of The Lions (which is the Detroit Lions hall-of-fame) later this year.

Huel Perkins was a newscaster at WJBK FOX 2 for 33 years, spending 25 of those years alongside Monica Gayle as the affiliate’s leading news anchors. During his time at the station, Perkins covered many of Detroit and Michigan‘s biggest political stories, winning multiple Emmy and Michigan Association of Broadcasters awards. Perkins retired from FOX 2 in 2022. 

America’s Thanksgiving Parade presented by Gardner White will take place on Thursday, November 23. The parade will air live on WDIV-Local 4 from 10 a.m. to noon, with a one-hour syndicated national broadcast from 10 to 11 a.m. America’s Thanksgiving Parade is seen in more than 185 television markets across the country.
