Israel Defense Forces Announce Expansion of Ground Operations in Gaza

JERUSALEM, October 28, 2023 ~ Israel Defense Forces expanded ground operations late Friday through Saturday into the Palestinian territory of Gaza.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday that this expansion is the country’s “second stage” into Gaza, another sign that a long-anticipated ground invasion is happening. The news comes as journalists in the region report a simultaneous uptick in the sounds of outgoing tank fire and explosions.

(CONTINUED) International efforts to persuade Israel away from an invasion while hostage negotiations and humanitarian efforts are underway haven’t been able to dissuade the Israeli government from moving forward in their campaign to eliminate Hamas from the region.

More than 200 hostages are being held in Gaza by Hamas, 12 of whom are reportedly American citizens.

As the siege intensifies, Israeli officials are encouraging Palestinian civilians to evacuate south. More than 7,000 have died in Gaza, 2,900 of those being children.
