WASHINGTON D.C., Nov. 8, 2023 ~ Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) was censured Tuesday evening in a 234-188 vote, including 22 of her House Democrat colleagues, regarding her statements about the Israel-Hamas war.
The censure resolution, authored by Republican Rep. Rich McCormick (GA-6), was introduced over criticisms of her defense of the pro-Palestinian slogan “From the river to the sea” which is considered by many to be an antisemitic call for removing Jewish people in Israel, including some of Tlaib’s Michigan Democrat colleagues. Tlaib and many pro-Palestinian protestors push back on the antisemitism charges, saying the slogan refers to the creation of one, secular state in Israel where Arab and Jewish people are equal.

(CONTINUED) During her speech before the vote, Tlaib said her voice as the only Palestinian member of Congress is needed now amid the growing humanitarian crisis from Israel’s bombing campaign in the Gaza Strip following Hamas‘ attack on Oct. 7.
“I can’t believe I have to say this, but Palestinian people are not disposable,” Tlaib said on the House floor before the censure as she appeared to tear up. “We are human beings like anyone else…
“The cries of the Palestinian and Israeli children sound no different to me. What I don’t understand is why do the cries of Palestinian children sound differently to you?“
As of Wednesday morning, about 10,550 people have died in Gaza, with over half of them being women and children.
Let me start by being clear that this is not a First Amendment issue. Rashida Tlaib has the right to spew antisemitic vitriol and even call for the destruction of the Jewish State. But the House of Representatives also has a right to make it clear that her hate speech does not… pic.twitter.com/zVAI5h6lBU
