EAST LANSING, Nov. 13, 2023 ~ The Michigan State Spartans defeated the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles 74-51 to get their first win of the season at the Breslin Center in East Lansing last Thursday.

The Spartans had everything going their way during the game. A combined effort of the starting five carried the load for the Spartans. Off the bench for Michigan State, Xavier Booker is a player the fans haven’t got to see much of. Booker played 17 minutes, a substantial increase from the five minutes he played in Michigan State’s loss to James Madison University.

Nov. 10, 2023 ~ Michigan State Head Basketball Coach Tom Izzo talks with Guy Gordon, Lloyd Jackson, Jamie Edmonds, and Steve Courtney to talk about the Spartans win over Southern Indiana and the upcoming game against Duke in the Champions Classic.

(CONTINUED) The Spartans had plenty of defensive stops, but the Spartan starting five took care of most of the offensive work. Spartans’ Tyson Walker had the most points on the team, scoring 14. Walker also had Michigan State’s only three-pointer on the night. Michigan State shot 1/11 from three-point range, leaving the Spartans at 2/31 from three within the last two games.

Michigan State Head Coach Tom Izzo opened up his post-game press conference by addressing the concern for the team’s poor three-point shooting:

I’m not [concerned with the teams three-point shooting], we did it all summer, all fall, shot the ball really well…I just went five months watching guys shoot so that doesn’t faze me.

The Spartans have a tough matchup with the No.2 ranked Duke Blue Devils on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the United Center in Chicago for the State Farm Champions Classic.
