Arizona Defeats Michigan State in Thanksgiving Thriller

EAST LANSING, MI, Nov. 23, 2023 ~ The Arizona Wildcats defeat the Michigan State Spartans 74-68 in their second game of the Acrisure Classic at Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs California. 

The Spartans came out slow. Arizona in the first half led by as much as 15. Michigan States’ Tyson Walker was the only thing the Spartans had going for them as he had 14 points in the first half. Walker was the game’s leading scorer with 18 points which narrowed the Wildcats’ lead to 10 going into the half.

(CONTINUED) Michigan State turned things around in the second half. Spartans’ Jaden Akins had 12 points in the second half after finishing the first half with none. Later in the second half Michigan States’ A.J. Hoggard took over with 15 points after also having none in the first half. 

Michigan State was able to take the lead by one point with just under four and half minutes left in the game. Arizona came up with multiple defensive stops and took multiple trips to the free throw line in the games closing minutes.

The Wildcats’ leading scorer
Caleb Love had 17 points on the night. Love came through for Arizona with a crucial steal with just over 10 seconds remaining in the game. That steal was the nail in the coffin that put Michigan State away leading to the Wildcats’ victory. 

The Spartans look to get back in the win column when they return to the Breslin Center in East Lansing to face Georgia Southern on Nov. 28. Coverage starts at 5:30 p.m. on 760 WJR.
