EAST LANSING, MI, Dec. 16, 2023 ~ The Michigan State Spartans dominated the Baylor Bears 88-64 in the Continental Tire Motor City Invitational at Little Caeser’s Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
Michigan State had their best start of the season. Spartans’ Tyson Walker who had 18 points in the first half was unable to be stopped by the Bears’ defense. Walker shot a perfect 4/4 from three-point range in the game.
The Baylor offense was unable to get anything to go their way in the first half. They finished the half with just 17 points, shooting a poor 7/22 from the field. Michigan State’s defensive stops and efficient offense got them out to a 28-point lead going into the half.

(CONTINUED) More of the same continued in the second half. The Bears went on a 9-0 run towards the beginning of the second half but eventually fell flat. The Baylor offense had a season-high 21 turnovers compared to Michigan State’s season-high 15 steals.
The Spartan offense continued to shine in the second half as they shot nearly 64% from the field. Michigan State’s A.J. Hoggard led the Spartans in the second half with 10 points. Alongside Hoggard, Walker finished the night with 25 points as the game’s leading scorer.
Michigan States victory handed Baylor their first loss of the season. After losing their past two games, the Spartans were able to get back into the win column. Michigan State returns to the Breslin Center as they face off against Oakland Dec. 18. Coverage starts at 6 p.m. on 760 WJR.
