DETROIT, Jan. 9, 2024 ~ The Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission has until Feb. 2 to redraw seven metro Detroit state house districts, federal judges ordered.

A panel of three federal judges ruled in December that these districts were unconstitutional, determining that the commission diluted the power of Black voters by drawing 13 state legislative districts based on race in a lawsuit filed by metro Detroit voters against the commission. The commission tried to appeal the panel’s decision on Monday, but was denied by the judges.
