MICHIGAN, Jan. 22, 2024 ~ Inter-party warfare continues in the Michigan Republican Party with a faction of party members voting in former U.S. Congressman Pete Hoekstra as party leader, though its current leader refuses to step down.

About 70 members of the Michigan GOP State Committee met Saturday in a Lansing hotel to vote on whether Hoekstra should replace Michigan GOP Chair Kristina Karamo as leader amid a period of financial and transparency woes for the party, with the vote favoring Hoekstra. This comes weeks after the anti-Karamo faction voted to oust Karamo as party chair, though she still refuses to acknowledge this vote as legal under the party bylaws. A follow-up vote with other state GOP members favored Karamo, who later sent out cease and desist orders to those in the party who refused to recognize her as leader.

As of Monday afternoon, the Republican National Committee‘s website still had Karamo listed as the state party’s chairperson.
