MICHIGAN, May 28, 2024 ~ The parents of a couple who died in Lake Michigan about two years ago are trying to ensure no other parents have to suffer the pain they did after their children lost their lives while swimming in Lake Michigan.

In August of 2022, 19-year-old Emily MacDonald and 22-year-old Kory Ernster were out enjoying a day at the beach in South Haven when the two died from drowning. Emily’s mom, Lisa MacDonald and Kory’s father, Stephen Ernster, are using life insurance money to donate Emergency Integrated Lifesaving Lanyards, or EMILY, to the cities of New Buffalo and Silver Beach along the shore of Lake Michigan.
