Whitmer Addresses Large Crowd at Motor City Pride

DETROIT, June 10, 2024 ~ Tens of thousands of people filled Hart Plaza over the weekend for a colorful celebration of LGBTQ+ pride, drawing a record number of small businesses to the festival.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II were in attendance for Motor City Pride, which took place June 8-9, who have touted success in passing legislation to protect the rights of LGBTQ+ people. In a speech from a parade float, Whitmer said, “I love the pride parade because it is about joy, opportunity, and making sure Michigan is on the right side of history finally. We worked for decades to expand civil rights for the LGBTQ+ community.
