June 16, 2024 ~ ROCHESTER HILLS, Michigan — A shooting at a splash pad in Rochester Hills Saturday left nine people wounded, including children and adults.

The 42-year-old male assailant parked his car, walked a few yards to the Brooklands Plaza Splashpad, and opened fire, instantly turning a serene summer setting into a nightmare of panic and terror.

Through new technology called Live911, officers in the field were able to immediately hear audio of the 911 alerts, even before dispatchers issued a call. Law enforcement was on the scene within two minutes.

Reports suggest that the quick response caused the assailant to flee before more harm could be done, with SWAT teams, helicopters, and drones pursuing him to a home located a half-mile away from the park. The gunman was found in that home dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
