Michigan State Representative Says Biden Should ‘Pass the Torch to a New Generation’

LANSING, July 10, 2024 ~ A Michigan state representative has called on President Joe Biden to step down from the presidential race in a lengthy thread on X.

On Tuesday, State Rep. Phil Skaggs (D-East Grand Rapids) posted that Biden’s poor debate performance “was unable to convince Americans that he is capable of defeating Trump this fall,” and that he should step aside for the good of the country. He also said that Biden is hurting the chances for local state legislative races across the country, including in Michigan where Democrats hold a slim majority in both the State House and Senate. He told WJR, “It’s extraordinarily important that we have the best nominee for president possible because of the effect that it has on down-ballot races.
