DETROIT, June 12, 2024 ~ U.S. Rep. Hillary Scholten (MI-3) called on President Joe Biden to step down as the party’s presumptive nominee Thursday, becoming the first Michigan Democrat Congress member to make such a statement.

This comes as many in her party are expressing public and private concerns over Biden’s ability to serve as president following his poor debate performance against President Donald Trump, along with how his poor poll numbers will affect down-ballot races in battleground states like Michigan. “President Biden has served his country well, but for the sake of our democracy, he must pass the torch to a new candidate for the 2024 election,” Scholten posted on X.
