MICHIGAN, July 22, 2024 ~ Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer joined dozens of prominent Democrats Monday by throwing her support behind Vice President Kamala Harris to be the party’s nominee for president in 2024.

Whitmer, who had long been considered as a possible replacement for President Joe Biden at the top of the ticket, this morning said she was “fired up” for Harris’s run to the White House. However, she said later in the day that she was not interested in running as Kamala’s vice president.

Other potential Biden replacements have endorsed Harris, likely easing her path to the nomination: Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Mark Kelly, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.
