Abby Tamer was born on July 9, 2003 in Whitmore Lake, Michigan, and grew up in Dexter. She graduated from Dexter High School in December 2020. Following high school, she chose to stay in-state and attend the University of Michigan, where she is majoring in Applied Exercise Science.

Abby began her field hockey career in 2015, which was inspired by her mother who started a successful field hockey program in their hometown. She joined the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2023. Despite this being her first Olympics, Abby is no stranger to the international stage. She won gold at the 2023 Junior Pan American Championship in Saint Michael, Barbados, where she was named Most Valuable Player, and silver at the 2024 FIH Olympic Qualifier in Ranchi, India.

(CONTINUED) Abby’s career highlights include:

  • 2019: Named to the U.S. U-16 Women’s National Team, participated in a tour in Germany.

Abby has also been involved in various charitable activities, receiving the President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2017. Her game day mantra is “It’s not over ’till it’s over,” and her favorite sports quote is “Great moments are born from great opportunities,” a quote from a motivational speech given by the coach of the underdog 1980 men’s hockey team, whose victory was later dubbed the Miracle on Ice.

The start of the group stage for the United States Women’s Field Hockey National Team will take place on July 27.
