Although he hails from Stoughton, Massachusetts, Fred Richard has embraced life as a Michigander since stepping foot on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor back in 2022.
Born on April 23, 2004, Fred quickly made a name for himself in the world of artistic gymnastics. Fred’s journey in gymnastics began at a young age, and he has since become a prominent figure on the national stage. In the fall of 2023, he made history by becoming the first U.S. man since 2010 to win a medal in the All-Around at the World Championships, securing a bronze medal.

July 30, 2024 ~ Assistant University of Michigan Men’s Gymnastics Coach Jordan Gaarenstroom and UM/US Olympic Gymnast Fred Richard joined “Focus with Paul W. Smith,” to talk about the bronze medal that the men’s gymnastics team won last night. The victory marked America’s first medal in men’s gymnastics since 2008.

(CONTINUED) His success continued at the 2024 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championships, where he finished with two second-place finishes, helping Michigan secure the runner-up position.
Fred’s outstanding performances at the U.S. Olympic Trials, where he placed first in the All-Around and finished in the top three for three events, earned him an automatic spot on the U.S. Olympic Team.
In addition to his athletic achievements, Fred has built a significant presence on social media. His Instagram and TikTok page, “Frederick Flips,” have amassed close to a million followers, where he shares his gymnastics journey and engages with fans.
He is set to showcase his extraordinary abilities at the 2024 Paris Olympics, with his first appearance scheduled for July 27, the day after the opening ceremonies.
