DETROIT, July 25, 2024 ~ Years ago, we were visiting Toronto for a weekend and decided to sup at an exclusive, and quite expensive, French restaurant.
It was a hasty choice made without much thought, except to embrace the anticipated experience.
What is remembered about the evening is not the wonderful food or the ambiance, but the fact that, after dinner, we were still very hungry.
We found a place a few blocks away where we had a great time and satiated our appetites for a fraction of the money.

The lasting lesson is the true cost of our dining experience, which included not only the dollars laid out for both meals, but the time, disappointment and frustration involved in the experience.
Another aspect of the cost is the ego component. The person who chose the first venue spent years living it down.
We face similar issues on a constant basis with our own homes, some more significant than others.
Perhaps we invested time, effort and energy into mulch replacement last year only to discover we purchased an inferior product that quickly decayed and did not hold its color, forcing us to replicate the work and expenditure.
While not a pleasant experience, both the ego and the household budget can easily survive the issue and move on.

What is the true cost of hiring the wrong roofer?
A few of the potential consequences might include an unattractive roof that does not keep weather out of the building, damages to landscaping and siding during the installation, a dumpster that damaged our driveway and overstayed its welcome by two weeks, nails in the grass surrounding the home found by our children as they play in the yard, and the list goes on.
Then, perhaps the greatest indignity of making the wrong hire occurs when we call for service to correct the issues.
The installing retailer directs us to a toll-free number owned by the product manufacturer who reluctantly agrees to dispatch a representative to inspect the installation.
When they show up two weeks later, we are informed that it is not a product issue, but an installation issue that requires us to go back to the installer for correction.
And there you are. Stuck in the middle of the finger-pointing while you try to maintain your life and family.
The cost of another replacement will be added to your initial investment and all the time, work and worry will be apportioned on top of that cost.
A new roof system should easily last 40-50 years. Yours lasted eight.
