DETROIT, AUG. 1, 2024 ~ Michigan‘s minimum wage will increase from $10.33 an hour, to $12 hour by February of 2025, and then $15 by 2028.
This is the result of a 4-3 ruling from the Michigan Supreme Court Wednesday, which reversed the changes made to the Michigan Paid Sick Leave and Michigan Minimum Wage Increase initiatives by Republican lawmakers in 2018. The laws were ballot initiatives that received enough signatures to be on the ballot that year, but the Republican-led legislature adopted the laws to later water them down in the lame-duck session, sparking outrage that the decision was unconstitutional. The laws will also increase paid sick leave for employees and close the gap between the minimum wage for tip and non-tip workers.
