CHICAGO, August 20, 2024 ~ Democrats kicked off their convention Monday at the United Center in Chicago, offering a packed lineup of speakers designed to honor their past while depicting an energized view of their future.

This is going to be a great week,” Vice President Kamala Harris told the enthusiastic conventioneers during her surprise appearance.

I want to kick us off by celebrating our incredible President, Joe Biden. Joe … thank you for your historic leadership, for your lifetime of service to our nation, and for all you will continue to do.  We are forever grateful to you.

This November, we will come together and declare with one voice, as one people … we are moving forward … let us fight for the ideas that we hold dear, and let us always remember, when we fight, we win.

Following the excitement of the nominee’s appearance, the convention’s podium presented a familiar procession of party stalwarts. Speakers included former Secretary of State and first-ever female major party nominee, Hillary Clinton, popular UAW President Sean Fain, who labeled Trump as a “scab” (a term used by labor unions to describe someone who undermines the union’s efforts), and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, who lauded her husband for his dedication to the country and his lifetime of service to the nation.

His speech, at times emotional, reflected on his presidency, highlighted key accomplishments, and expressed his deep love for the country, while also offering an enthusiastic endorsement for his Vice President to succeed him.

The DNC continues tonight with presentations from Michelle and Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.
