EAST LANSING, August 30, 2024 ~ Michigan State Football (1-0) came out victorious against Florida Atlantic (0-1) Friday night at Spartan Stadium by a score of 16-10. MSU‘s offense heavily relied on graduate transfer running back Kay’ron Lynch-Adams, rushing for over 100 yards and a touchdown. A number of penalties and turnovers plagued MSU for most of the game, but the green and white showed resolve when it mattered most.

Both teams came out very sloppily on their first couple of offensive drives as MSU sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles threw an interception on the first play of the game.

The Spartan defense was stout the entire first half though, sacking FAU quarterback Cam Fancher in their own end zone for a safety early in the opening quarter. After a fumble in the red zone from senior wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr., the Spartan defense recorded back-to-back interceptions around the mid way point of the second period to regain the momentum.

Chiles would soon capitalize on the junior safety Nikai Martinez interception, scoring an 11 yard rushing touchdown for MSU’s first score of the season. Adams would follow Chiles’ suit with a 63 yard breakaway touchdown run of his own up the middle of the field to help keep the Spartans ahead by two possessions after a Florida Atlantic field goal near the end of the first half.

(CONTINUED) “I am just happy that I was able to contribute in a positive way,” Adams said. “I loved the energy that was in there and I was feeding off of that as well. I am looking forward to contributing to the team in any way I can.

It was more of the same on both sides of the ball for either team in the second half. While Michigan State wasn’t able to muster any points in the third and fourth quarters, the defense stepped up and provided a number of key sacks and tackles for loss to keep FAU at bay.

Next up for the Spartans is the Maryland Terrapins. This game will be the first road match of the season for the green and white.
