EAST LANSING, September 14, 2024 ~ Michigan State Football (3-0) dominated Prairie View A&M (1-2) 40-0 thanks to stout defense and explosive offensive plays, both on the ground and through the air.

The Spartans got off to a quick start on their first drive, scoring on a six yard run from sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles. After getting it done with his legs, Chiles showed off his arm on the ensuing possession, finding freshman wide receiver Aziah Johnson for a 17-yard touchdown.

The receivers came to play,” Chiles told WJR Correspondent Nick Lundberg. “AZ came out and did what he needed to do, caught a couple big passes for some yards. I feel like we have a good receiver room and we can use a lot of different guys in a lot of different ways.”

In wake of fellow running back Kay’ron Lynch-Adams touchdown run for more than 60 yards in Week One, redshirt junior running back Nate Carter followed suit against Prairie View, finding the sideline all the way home for a 60-yard score.

Michigan State’s defense was making plays all first half, despite some penalty issues similar to the FAU contest. Redshirt junior cornerback Charles Brantley intercepted a ball in the Prairie View end zone, and made it all the way to the opposite side of the field for a 100-yard touchdown return, the longest in program history.

(CONTINUED) After driving the ball the length of the field to start the second half, the Spartans were forced to settle for a 33-yard field goal from graduate kicker Jonathan Kim to push the score to 30-0 in favor of MSU.

Later in the fourth quarter, sixth year quarterback Tommy Schuster came into the match for Chiles, and led the Spartans down the field. The drive resulted in another field goal for Kim, this time from 23 yards.

The Spartan defense would continue to be too much for Prairie View’s offense to handle, only allowing two completions in the final half. Schuster would then come in and again lead his unit down the field, this time resulting in a one-yard sneak for his first touchdown of the season to cap off the rout.

Next up for Michigan State is a big ranked matchup on the road against No. 24 Boston College for the green and white’s first ranked bout of the year.
