DETROIT, September 15, 2024 ~ Despite a 4.5 sack from Detroit Lion defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, the Lions could not overcome six failed opportunities to score within 20 yards of the end zone in a 20-16 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Ford Field Sunday afternoon.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff did not perform to his best, throwing two interceptions and 21 incompletions. Running back David Montgomery scored Detroit’s only touchdown of the afternoon, while kicker Jake Bates was perfect on three field goal attempts.

(CONTINUED) Wide receiver Jameson Williams and running back Jahmyr Gibbs also made huge impacts with their speed in open space, on top of wide receiver Amon Ra St. Brown leading all of his teammates with 119 receiving yards. Unfortunately for the offense, the All-Pro left late in the game with an apparent ankle injury.

Defensive back Brian Branch was also helping keep the Lions in the game the entire 60 minutes, most notably intercepting Buccaneer quarterback Baker Mayfield near the end of the first half. Head coach Dan Campbell would soon blunder the last play of the second quarter though, causing a 10-second runoff before a field goal could be attempted.

Mayfield was sharp all afternoon, scoring through the air and with his legs to complete the four point victory.

Detroit (1-1) will travel to Arizona to face the Cardinals next week for a chance to bounce back in the win column.
