MSU Football Focused on Limiting Penalties Against Boston College

EAST LANSING, September 20, 2024 ~ Michigan State Football (3-0) will travel to Boston College (2-1) this weekend to face the Eagles in the first game of a gauntlet of ranked matchups over the next couple of weeks. While the Spartan’s most recently shut out Prairie View A&M 40-0, there are still issues to be addressed for when competition gets tougher.

One point that has plagued the Spartans throughout the first three games has been penalties. The green and white have committed 107 yards in yellow flags this season per game, good for a rank of second to last in the entire league (FBS).

Michigan State has made this an emphasis throughout the first few weeks of the season. While the work has not quite come to fruition, redshirt senior linebacker Jordan Turner told WJR Correspondent Nick Lundberg that Defensive Coordinator Joe Rossi has been demonstrating technique all week.

He preaches toughness, detail and he wants you to put it all together each play,” Turner said. “Play each play as it is and we have a great chance to be a really good defense.”

(CONTINUED) Boston College and quarterback Thomas Castellanos won’t make it easy for the defense on Saturday night, as he can get it done on the run or in the passing game.

For MSU’s offense, sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles had his first turnover free game last week and will likely need to extend this streak in order to give his team a chance to complete the upset.

Kick-off is set for 8 p.m on the ACC Network. Follow along for live game coverage on The Spartan Network starting at 6:30 p.m.
