DETROIT, Oct. 7, 2024 ~ Hundreds of Michigan college students at Wayne State University and the University of Michigan protest Israel on the one-year mark of its siege and bombardment on Gaza.

Students performed walkouts on the first anniversary of the Hamas-led attacks on Oct. 7 in Israel after the group broke through the Gaza border walls and took hundreds hostage, with about 1,200 people dying in firefights between Palestinian militants and the Israeli military. Since then, at least 40,000 people have been killed by Israeli actions in Gaza, mostly women and children, with protestors at the walkouts calling it a genocide. Students at U-M and WSU have been calling for their schools to divest university funds from Israel.
