MICHIGAN, Oct. 15, 2024 ~ At a speech for the Detroit Economic Club, leaders at Michigan‘s three leading research universities showed continued support for the University Research Corridor.
On Tuesday, University of Michigan President Santa Ono, Michigan State University President Kevin Guskiewicz, and Wayne State University President Kimberly Andrews Espy spoke to the DEC about their school’s alliance in talent development and academic research and their stance on student activism amid crackdowns on pro-Palestinian protests. The three presidents are relatively new to their roles, and reflected on joining their institutions.
“One of the things that is special about Michigan is its people,” Espy said to Paul W. “It’s a place that is the past, present, and the future of innovation, and that comes down to people. Whether it’s our engineering workforce across the state, or our creative innovators who are thinking new thoughts. That’s what the research universities do together. They spawn that talent that creates big things for the future.“
