DETROIT, October 20, 2024 ~ After leading for a majority of the game, the Detroit Lions found themselves down one point on the road against the Minnesota Vikings with the ball under two minutes to go. Quarterback Jared Goff dissected the defense on the final drive, as he did for most of the game, leading to a 48-yard game winning field goal by kicker Jake Bates to take a 31-29 win over the previously 5-0 Vikings Sunday afternoon.

Minnesota jumped out to a 10 point lead early in the first quarter, but the Lions would fight back to give themselves the advantage for most of the match in the second. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs broke open a 45-yard touchdown run for the first Detroit score of the day. He added another one later at the end of the first half to give himself two rushing touchdowns to complement his over 100 yard performance.

(CONTINUED) Almost like the Seattle game, Goff was close to being perfect. He only threw three incomplete passes out of 25 tries, finishing with 280 passing yards and two touchdowns. Wide receivers Kalif Raymond and Amon-Ra St. Brown were both able to haul in Goff’s passes for scores, as St. Brown also added 112 receiving yards to his total.

In the first game without star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, who is out for the season due to injury, the Lions defense found plays from other areas of the unit. While an up-and-down performance of the pass rush which generated four sacks and some help for the back of the defense, safety Brian Branch continued to make play after play despite of the situation, recording yet another interception to give himself four on the season.

Now sitting at the top of the NFC North with a 5-1 record, Detroit will return home next Sunday to play host to the Tennessee Titans
