EAST LANSING, October 20, 2024 ~ Ever since Michigan State tennis player Ozan Baris stepped onto campus in East Lansing, he has done nothing but star for the program.

Last week, Baris became the first Michigan State men’s tennis player to win the ITA Regional Singles Championship and only MSU’s second-ever ITA Regional title winner. He was also named co-Big Ten Player of the Week, becoming the only Spartan to win the award three times in a career.

(CONTINUED) Baris came into the fall season ranked No. 1 in the Division I Men’s ITA Collegiate Tennis National Preseason Rankings. He showed why he was the weekend’s top seed, winning five of his six matches in straight sets.

This feat only adds to a stellar collection of accomplishments for the junior, as he has also garnered Big Ten Freshman of the Year and U.S. Open Junior champion accolades in his young career.

With last Monday’s regional win, Baris has qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships next month in Waco, Texas.

Next up for the entire green and white tennis squad is the M15 Norman tournament starting Monday in Oklahoma.
