MICHIGAN, Oct. 22, 2024 ~ An apparent voter roll discrepancy in Michigan is causing some concerns about voter fraud, but the state is reassuring that it is not an indication of voter fraud.

The state currently has 8.4 million registered voters, about 500,000 more than the current number of residents over the voting age. This is due to a 2018 ballot proposal approved by voters that automatically registers people over the age of 18 when applying for or renewing a driver’s license, and the state not knowing when people move out of state. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson told the Michigan Chronicle that the state has safeguards against fraud and that the state plans to remove over 600,000 people from the voter rolls in a manner that does not arbitrarily purge legitimate voters.
