MSU Basketball Takes First Conference Win at Minnesota

EAST LANSING, December 4, 2024 ~ Michigan State basketball (7-2) started the month of December with a 90-72 on the road against the Minnesota Golden Gophers (6-4) Wednesday night. 

Four players scored in double figures in the Spartans first conference opening win in two seasons. 

Sophomore forward Coen Carr led the way with 12 points, while junior forward Jaxon Kohler pitched in with a 11 point, 11 rebound double-double. Redshirt freshman point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. added in 10 points and five assists while sophomore forward Xavier Booker made three three pointers to finish with 11 points and multiple blocks.

(CONTINUED) All 12 players the green and white played scored against the Gophers. The entire bench combined for 36 points with redshirt freshman Gehrig Normand scoring his first ever career points, hitting a three near the end of the contest. 

For the first time this year Michigan State shot 50% from beyond the arc, making a season-high 11 out of 22 attempts. The Spartans were also dominant in the paint, out rebounding the Gophers 39-27. 

MSU will head back to East Lansing for a match with Nebraska this weekend. If the team pulls out a win, they could be ranked in the AP Poll for the first time since the beginning of last season.
