MICHIGAN, Dec. 10, 2024 ~ Establishing a northern border security center at Macomb County‘s Selfridge Airbase Air National Guard is one of many components of the proposed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The bill is currently in the U.S. House and is facing scrutiny over language such as not allowing gender-affirming care for transgender children of military personnel and undermining diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in the military, according to The Hill. Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel told WJR the Selfridge center, pushed in part by Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI), was “great news,” and that, “It is a testament to what’s happening at Selfridge. We always talk about the sustainability of Selfridge, our installation here, our hometown air base, if you will. It’s not just a Macomb County thing, it’s a Michigan thing, and let’s face it, it’s part of our nation’s defense.
