Dec. 17, 2024 ~ After 50 years in government, Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) is set to retire at the end of the year.
First elected to the Ingham County Board of Commissioners in 1974, she went on to become the first woman to represent Michigan in the U.S. Senate in 2001. As she steps away from the senate, Stabenow told WJR that politics have become more “toxic,” and that, “The problem has gotten worse where there are some people now that believe that if you don’t agree with them on everything, not only will they not work with you, they won’t talk to you. It’s incredible. The way we get things done in democracy is look for that one thing (that you agree with).“
