EAST LANSING, Jan. 9, 2025 ~ #16 Michigan State basketball (13-2) nearly doubled the score of their opponents, the Washington Huskies (10-6), Thursday evening to mark the eighth straight win of the season for the Spartans. Senior guard Jaden Akins led all scorers with his third 20-point performance of the year in the 88-54 rout at the Breslin Center.
The win marks the second 30-plus point Big Ten win of the season for MSU after defeating Nebraska by 37 early in December.
The defense from the green and white was stifling all night long, especially in the first half. Washington only managed 13 points in the first 20 minutes, the fewest points allowed by a defense in a conference game since the 2009-2010 season. Washington’s leader in multiple categories, senior forward Great Osobor, did not make a single shot in the outing as his team finished with a 33% field goal percentage on 55 shots.
The Izzone student section alumni had a lot to cheer about, including Spartan legend Magic Johnson on X, watching sophomore forward Coen Carr fly on the fast break and throw down a monster dunk to blow the roof off of the arena early in the game.

What a monster dunk by MSU forward Coen Carr in tonight’s game against Washington! That would be a winning dunk in the NBA Slam Dunk contest 🔥@MSU_Basketball https://t.co/xbPArlHv5g

(CONTINUED) Redshirt freshman point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. tallied his first career double-double, scoring 12 points while dishing out 10 assists. He averages six assists per game, the third highest mark in the conference this year.
Junior big men Jaxon Kohler and Carson Cooper were controlling the boards for most of the night, grabbing seven rebounds a piece while adding six points respectively.
Freshman guard Jase Richardson was stuffing the stat sheet in multiple ways, recording 12 points, five steals, and two blocks.
The Spartans will look for their ninth straight victory when they travel to Evanston for a match against Northwestern this Sunday, Jan. 12, tipping off at noon.
