METRO DETROIT, Jan. 14, 2025 ~ Commuters who use I-696 in Oakland County will need to alter their rides for the next two years due to construction.
The Michigan Department of Transportation will close an 8-mile stretch of the roadway for two years starting around March 1, affecting the interstate from M-10 and Lahser Road in Southfield to I-75 near Ferndale and Royal Oak. The roadwork will impact eight communities and 200,000 drivers a day, though westbound traffic will be maintained throughout the project. The work will include new pavement, new signage, and replacements of more than a thousand drainage structures.
